recap: palm springs

March, 29. Straight after we landed in Los Angeles we picked up our car and drove out of the city. Traffic around LA was busy, but after about 3 hours we reached our first destination: Palm Springs. Sunshine, desert, palms, drinks at the pool, modernism and a great hotel awaited us there. Thanks to an article in a magazine we booked our stay at The Horizon Hotel, best choice we could make! After a quick shower, we met my parents and sister and had a quick bite at the villagefest, that takes place every thursday! After that it was time to go asleep, we travelled for about 23 hours and were quite exhausted!

March, 30. Due to jetlag we woke up at around 7 o'clock. We then saw, that there was a little paper next to our bed. The little card showed a variety of breakfast choices, that had to be filled out and hung outside the door. We haven't seen it the day before, but since we got up so early the cards were not yet collected. We could even choose where we wanted it to be delivered: in the room, on the patio or next to the pool. We chose to eat next to the pool, which turned out to be a good choice, because all other guests ate on their patios. Taking a quick swim during breakfast, while the sun is still gentle, but hot enough to keep you warm when you are wet - can it get any better?
Palm Springs has a lot of architecture from the midcentury. At the visitors center we bought a map, which showed the most significant ones. Of course, we had to see the Kaufmann Desert House by architect Richard Neutra! Eventhough you can only see it from the street it is worth it! After some architecture stalking we headed to Thousand Palms Oasis where we had a picnic. We then returned to the hotel where we relaxed with beer and Backgammon :) and after a delicious dinner at Fisherman's Market & Grill we enjoyed the pool and the jacuzzi!
